In mining operations, critical equipment such as conveyor belts and grinding mills run continuously, relying on stable power supply from transformers. However, prolonged operation of transformers generates excess heat. If not dissipated promptly, this can easily lead to system failures and impact production. To optimize operations, effective heat dissipation management technologies are necessary to prevent thermal runaway.

Oil Directed and Oil Forced Air Cooling (ODAF/OFAF) are common methods, dissipating heat through internal oil circulation. OFAF uses fans to drive external heat exchangers to cool the oil, suitable for large transformers; ODAF directs cooling oil to transformer hotspots, simplifying the heat dissipation process and reducing the risk of insulation degradation.

The Enhanced Filtered Air Cooling (AF) system is an upgrade from the basic Oil Natural Air Natural (ONAN) cooling. It uses high-power fans to accelerate air flow, carrying away heat, and handles surrounding debris and dust to prevent overheating, protecting internal transformer components.

The Oil Forced Water Forced (OFWF) heat exchanger combines external pumps with heat exchangers, introducing a water cooling circuit to absorb residual heat. It efficiently utilizes excess water resources from mine drainage systems and is particularly suitable for high MVA-rated transformers and space-constrained environments like underground mines.

Immersion cooling, as an emerging technology, combines dielectric cooling liquids with enhanced insulating materials to improve heat transfer efficiency, extend transformer lifespan, and simultaneously resist environmental factors, enhancing the scalability of mining operations.

Effective heat dissipation management must be closely integrated with production goals to reduce downtime and improve overall efficiency and output.
