Wedoany.com Report on 9th, SpaceX in the US has launched the Starlink Residential 200 Mbps satellite internet plan for $80 per month, aiming to expand coverage. This plan promises download speeds of 80-200 Mbps and upload speeds of 15-35 Mbps, lower than the standard Residential Max plan's over 300 Mbps download and 30-50 Mbps upload. However, latency remains at 20-30 ms, consistent with the higher-priced plans.

A tester conducted a 10-day evaluation in a household using the Residential 200 Mbps plan, measuring speeds every minute with a custom script. Results showed an average download speed of 214.6 Mbps, exceeding advertised promises; average upload speed was 35.86 Mbps, meeting expectations. Average latency was 22.7 ms, consistent with the Residential Max plan, indicating improvements in Starlink's infrastructure.

However, reduced data priority leads to speed fluctuations, with download speeds varying between 19.8 Mbps and 465.6 Mbps depending on regional user demand. Although labeled "unlimited," the plan adheres to a fair use policy and is not suitable for heavy, continuous downloading. The Starlink Residential 200 Mbps plan offers similar connection quality at a lower price, making it suitable for budget-conscious users.

The test summary highlights three key points: promised speeds are realistic and achievable; latency is identical across all plans, ensuring a smooth experience; predictability is lower, with high-speed fluctuations influenced by data priority. For customers in rural areas with no better alternatives, the Starlink Residential 200 Mbps plan provides reliable service for an $80 monthly fee, representing an economical choice.
