Wedoany.com Report on Mar 10th, VAALCO Energy recently released the latest operational update on its Phase III drilling campaign offshore Gabon. The company has completed drilling operations for the ET-14P exploration well located in the Etame West area. The well encountered a 10-meter thick high-quality Gamba sandstone interval, consistent with pre-drill geological predictions; however, the target section was found to be an aquifer with no commercial value.Diagram or image related to the drilling operation

According to plan, the lower section of the wellbore will be plugged and abandoned, while the upper section will be preserved and utilized for sidetrack drilling operations. This adjustment aims to drill the ET-14H development well towards the main Etame fault block. The relevant work requires approval from partners and is expected to be completed within April.

VAALCO Energy's Chief Executive Officer, George Maxwell, commented on this: 'When deciding to drill the Etame West exploration well, we anticipated the geological risk that commercial sandstone might not be found, but the potential reservoir size made this attempt worthwhile. At the same time, we designed the well with contingencies so that if the sandstone proved non-commercial, we could still utilize the existing wellbore to drill a development well into a known productive area. The sidetrack operation is expected to conclude in April.'

This drilling project update highlights VAALCO Energy's continued investment and flexible response in offshore oil and gas exploration in Gabon. By optimizing wellbore utilization, the company aims to enhance the efficiency of block development, and subsequent progress is worth watching.
