Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, Spanish paper manufacturer Lecta has recently launched a full range of packaging paper products free from added PFAS, aiming to help converters and brand owners adapt to increasingly stringent regulatory requirements and transition to safer material choices.

The company announced that its entire packaging product portfolio, including the food packaging series, is manufactured without the addition of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. This transformation, achieved through formula review, raw material screening, and supply chain control, has established a global standard for the company.

With the comprehensive update of the product line, Lecta's "free from added PFAS" label will no longer be applied separately, as all packaging paper series have now achieved this status. The company has also introduced new grease-resistant papers within its Creaset, Metalvac, and Adestor series, replacing traditional greaseproof papers. These new papers offer both technical performance and processability, facilitating a swift transition to sustainable options.

This initiative aligns with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which is set to take effect on August 12, 2026. The regulation imposes restrictions on PFAS in packaging, requiring manufacturers to eliminate these substances while meeting standards for recyclability and chemical safety. Transitioning to PFAS-free solutions has become a key factor in ensuring future compliance.

Similar regulatory trends are emerging in markets outside the EU, highlighting the need for technically robust alternatives. Lecta states that its portfolio of PFAS-free barrier papers offers scalable solutions, enabling the industry to proactively address the PPWR and global restrictions, ensuring compliance without compromising quality.

Eliminating added PFAS is part of Lecta's strategy to develop safer, more sustainable solutions in line with circular economy principles. This move reinforces the company's position as a strategic partner for converters and international brands.
