Wedoany.com Report on Mar 17th, Johnson Sakaja, the Governor of Nairobi County and Chairperson of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Delivery Committee, has directed relevant departments to develop a 48-hour action plan to address citywide flooding, drainage failures, and infrastructure damage. The directive was issued following an emergency meeting at City Hall with several Principal Secretaries and representatives from national government agencies.

The meeting focused on the worsening flood situation in Nairobi caused by persistent heavy rains. Governor Sakaja instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive report. This report should include a map of drainage hotspots, identification of damaged roads and infrastructure along with the required work, responsible agencies, and cost estimates for repairs. The committee agreed to prioritize the repair and re-carpeting of roads damaged by floods and discussed the installation of new streetlights in informal settlements, highways, and residential areas.

"The plan should allow for immediate interventions to restore normalcy in the affected areas," Sakaja emphasized the need for swift action. The flood response efforts will involve collaboration among several national agencies, including the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA). The committee is scheduled to reconvene on Thursday to review the report and approve emergency interventions. Previously, the Ministry of Interior had identified 37 flood-prone neighborhoods in Nairobi, located along major river corridors.
