Wedoany.com Report on Mar 19th, Bellway has commenced construction on the Hatton Gate development near Station Road in Longstanton, Cambridgeshire. This eco-friendly housing project will deliver 107 new homes. Spanning 11 acres, the plans include one to four-bedroom properties. Among these, 61 homes will be for private sale, 43 will be affordable homes for local residents, and there are three self-build plots.

All homes in this eco-friendly development will be equipped with air source heat pumps, electric vehicle charging points, and fiber-optic broadband connections, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and cater to modern living needs. Over three acres within the site will be dedicated to green open spaces, including wildlife areas, protection of an existing pond, sustainable drainage systems, a children's play area, and a network of cycle and pedestrian paths. The landscaping design emphasizes biodiversity, featuring new tree planting, creation of wetlands and meadows, installation of bat and bird boxes, placement of wildlife habitat log piles, and provision of gaps in fencing to facilitate the movement of small animals like hedgehogs. These designs ensure the eco-friendly housing project integrates well with the surrounding natural environment.

Mia Roussos, Sales Director for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: "Construction at Hatton Gate is now underway, and we will deliver an attractive and sustainable eco-friendly development that not only provides much-needed new homes but also new public open space and a community play area. We worked closely with the local authority on the development plans and gave careful consideration to the mix of homes to meet the needs of the local housing market, with a combination of one and two-bedroom apartments and two to four-bedroom houses. Providing affordable homes for rent and shared ownership, alongside homes for sale on the open market, will ensure a diverse and vibrant new community is created."

The site also includes land reserved for a commercial building, which could potentially accommodate a shop, café, or office space in the future. A detailed planning application for this has been submitted separately. Roussos added that the development team plans to hold a pre-launch event in April in partnership with the local estate agent Haart, inviting potential buyers to register their interest. The first homes are expected to be released to the market in July, with the first residents moving into this eco-friendly development in December 2026.
