en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 21st, Mikhail Kovalchuk, Director of Russia's Kurchatov Institute, which is involved in the Russian lunar power station project, stated on the 19th that Russia may build a nuclear power station on the moon within 5 to 7 years.

According to reports, Kovalchuk introduced several possible plans for the lunar nuclear power station at a government work meeting in Russia's Leningrad Oblast that day, stating that the project could be completed within 5 to 7 years.

On the same day, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), said at a seminar that the lunar nuclear power station would have a capacity of at least 5 kilowatts and a service life of up to 10 years. Currently, the lunar nuclear power station project is being jointly developed by three institutions: Rosatom, the Kurchatov Institute, and the Russian State Space Corporation (Roscosmos).

In December last year, Roscosmos announced that it had signed a contract with the Russian aerospace enterprise Lavochkin Research and Production Association, planning to complete the lunar power station by 2036. Other project participants include Rosatom and the Kurchatov Institute. Roscosmos stated that the Russian lunar power station project is an important step towards the goal of a permanent lunar scientific research station and a key step in transitioning from single missions to a long-term lunar exploration program.
