Inside the production workshop, red-hot steel billets pass through rolling mills and undergo various processes, transforming into super-sized coils of high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy wire rods. These "industrial backbones" will be shipped to CITIC Group's Daye Special Steel, where, after precision drawing, they will become the core welding materials for high-temperature components of nuclear power equipment, strengthening the foundation and empowering China's high-end equipment manufacturing.
"The high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy wire rods we produce, with a single coil weight exceeding 850 kilograms, are innovative products following the commissioning of the new high-speed wire rod production line. Currently, only Shenyuan Group in China possesses large-scale production capacity," explained Gong Youjun, Chairman of Shenyuan Group. Since the new production line commenced operation in June 2024, the company has cumulatively sold 20,000 tons of high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy materials, with sales exceeding 250 million yuan.
The successful R&D and mass production of high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy is a vivid example of Shenyuan Group breaking through foreign technological blockades and achieving domestic substitution.
Located in Dainan Town (Xinghua High-Tech Zone), Xinghua City, Shenyuan Group has consistently focused on the R&D and production of high-quality special steel and special alloy bar and wire rods. It holds a leading national position in niche segments such as steel for internal combustion engine valves, special stainless steel welding materials, and high-resistance electric heating alloys. As demand in the high-end market continues to upgrade, the original production lines could no longer meet the high-standard production requirements for special alloys. In 2022, the group officially launched the industrialization project for high-performance special alloy materials and the intelligent technological transformation project for the high-speed wire rod line, with a total investment of 636 million yuan. The project was fully completed and put into operation in June 2024. It introduced Germany's Siemens-Mannesmann (SMS group) most advanced finishing rolling, heat treatment equipment, and intelligent control systems, achieving fully intelligent production from raw materials to finished products. Temperature, rolling force, and tension control can all be automatically and precisely adjusted, reaching the industry's top precision level.
In fact, Shenyuan Group had already developed high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy as early as 2020. However, limited by traditional processes, it could only produce small coil products of 100 kilograms, whose performance and efficiency were unsuitable for high-end applications. After the new production line was commissioned, through process innovation—using continuously cast billets to replace traditional ingot casting—the company achieved stable batch production of special alloy coils over 850 kilograms and high-end special steel coils of 1500 kilograms. The grain refinement of the products improved by 30%, and the consistency of mechanical properties reached 99.5%, completely eliminating dependence on foreign technology.
"The greatest value of the new production line lies in its revolutionary upgrade of the entire special alloy production process," said Cheng Yijun, Head of the Group's Technological Transformation Project Department. The project achieves millisecond-level real-time temperature control and automatic closed-loop control, overcoming industry-wide challenges such as the high difficulty in processing high-temperature alloys and low control precision. All 28 processes in the entire line have achieved unmanned automatic operation. The surface defect detection rate of products has been reduced to below 0.1%, and the finished product qualification rate has increased to 98%. The alloy's high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance have improved by 15% compared to imported products, reaching internationally leading levels. This successfully establishes a complete high-end industrial chain of "material R&D—intelligent manufacturing—deep processing."
Today, Shenyuan Group's development momentum is strong: high-temperature corrosion-resistant alloy has secured orders exceeding 100 million yuan in the nuclear power sector; electric heating alloy has successfully entered the military and new energy fields; newly launched high-speed tool steel sales have exceeded 200 million yuan; the number of overseas customers and sales growth rate both exceed 50%; the proportion of the company's high-end products has increased to over 70%...
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Shenyuan Group has invested over 1 billion yuan in technological transformation to solidify its innovation foundation. Looking towards the "15th Five-Year Plan," the group is deepening its efforts in core technology fields with concrete actions to strengthen and complement the industrial chain.
