New Volkswagen Tavendor to Launch, Equipped with Fifth-Generation EA888 Engine

In terms of power, the 450TSI model is equipped with the fifth-generation EA888 engine, delivering a maximum power of 272 horsepower (200 kilowatts) and a peak torque of 400 Newton-meters. Even with a vehicle weight of 2 tons, it can achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration time in the 7-second range. The 380TSI model offers a maximum power of 157 kW, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. This fifth-generation EA888 engine achieves an optimized balance between power output and fuel economy.

For the exterior, the new vehicle features a full-width daytime running light design at the front, with dual-lens headlight units on both sides, and a more sporty front bumper design. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 5007 mm in length, 2015 mm in width, and 1767 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2980 mm. Compared to the current model, the wheelbase remains unchanged, while the body length has been increased. At the rear, chrome trim has been toned down, the dual-exhaust chrome accents have been removed, and the taillight internal design has been redesigned while maintaining the full-width style.

Inside, the new vehicle adopts the latest Volkswagen family three-screen interior design. The central floating infotainment screen measures 15 inches, and an 11.6-inch co-driver screen is integrated into the dashboard. The new model switches to a steering-column-mounted gear selector, adds wireless smartphone charging, and the steering wheel reverts to physical buttons. The vehicle features a spacious five-seat layout, with a trunk capacity of 693 liters. It is equipped with the IQ. Pilot enhanced driver assistance system, enabling end-to-end highway NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), supporting functions like active lane changing for overtaking and precise on/off-ramp navigation.

By incorporating the fifth-generation EA888 engine, the new Tavendor achieves an improvement in power performance. The application of this engine, combined with a comprehensive refresh of the exterior and interior, gives the new Tavendor renewed product competitiveness in the mid-to-large SUV market.
