en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, The Government of Canada officially released the National Freshwater Science Agenda on March 19. This agenda is the result of two years of extensive consultation by Environment and Climate Change Canada, incorporating the perspectives of over 800 experts and knowledge holders from various levels of government, sectors, Indigenous organizations, and the freshwater science field.

Federal Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Julie Dabrusin, stated: "By deepening our understanding of freshwater, we can better protect it and support the people, communities, and ecosystems that depend on it for the future." Marc Fisher, President of the Canada Water Agency, added: "By integrating Western science with Indigenous science and data, the science agenda will help inform and empower the Canada Water Agency to drive the necessary coordinated actions to restore, protect, and responsibly use Canada's freshwater for future generations."

The agenda covers multiple interconnected themes, including Indigenous science and knowledge, water availability, land use and water pollution, ecosystem resilience and biodiversity, socio-ecological factors, and economic research. Its development considered public feedback on freshwater priorities and was based on the "Canadian Freshwater Science Synthesis Report" released in 2024.

The Canadian Freshwater Science Agenda aims to enhance water resource management and protection capabilities through scientific integration, supporting long-term sustainable development. This initiative is expected to strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration and promote the restoration and responsible use of freshwater resources.
