en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 27th, Japanese company PowerX has announced the establishment of a new manufacturing plant named "Power Base Hokkaido" in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, to expand its renewable energy solutions. The factory is expected to commence operations in June 2027, focusing on the production of large-scale battery energy storage systems, with an investment of approximately 3 billion yen.Energy Storage System

The new plant will produce the "Mega Power 2500" containerized battery energy storage system, housed in a 10-foot container, specifically designed for grid-scale applications and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar power. At full operational capacity, the annual production is expected to reach 800 units, with a total energy storage capacity of about 2 gigawatt-hours, meeting the demand for energy storage solutions in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region.

PowerX chose Hokkaido for the factory based on several factors, including increasing overall production capacity to meet the growing demand for grid stabilization technologies and diversifying manufacturing operations to reduce risks and avoid dependence on a single location. This move is particularly significant in Japan, as it can mitigate the impact of natural disasters on industrial operations.

The factory is located in Tomakomai City, close to Tomakomai Port and New Chitose Airport, facilitating sea and air transportation of heavy equipment and finished products, thereby improving supply chain efficiency and shortening delivery times. Initially, it will operate one production line, with the design allowing for the future addition of another line. It may also manufacture scalable modular data centers.

The company plans to renovate existing buildings rather than construct new ones to save time and reduce environmental impact. The site area exceeds 25,000 square meters, suitable for industrial operations. This expansion aims to support Japan's carbon neutrality goals, strengthen the local energy system, promote the use of clean energy, and marks PowerX's transformation into a multi-location manufacturer.
