en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indonesia's state-owned electricity company PLN has recently launched a tender for solar projects with a total installed capacity of 1,225 megawatts.

The project, named Mentari Nusantara I, covers development sites across multiple regions of Indonesia, including 35 MW planned for Sumatra, 340 MW for Kalimantan, 600 MW for Java, 50 MW for Sulawesi, 80 MW for West Nusa Tenggara, and a combined 120 MW for Maluku and Papua.Indonesia PLN Solar Project Tender Map

The tender adopts the "Giga One" integrated procurement mechanism. PLN explained that bundling multiple projects into a single package helps achieve economies of scale while providing investors with more predictable project conditions.

The bidding process opened on April 30. PLN has not yet disclosed the bid closing date but has set the target commercial operation date for these projects in 2029.

PLN's Director of Project Management and New & Renewable Energy, Suroso Isnandar, stated that the Mentari Nusantara project is a crucial initial force in driving the Indonesian government's goal of achieving 100 GW of solar power construction. Isnandar also pointed out: "Giga One is a new blueprint for renewable energy procurement in Indonesia and an important milestone in the national energy transition process," and revealed that this procurement strategy will also be used for tenders involving hydropower, wind power, and battery energy storage systems in the future.

Research jointly released earlier this year by the Institute for Essential Services Reform and Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs shows that Indonesia's planned 100 GW photovoltaic target includes 80 GW of distributed small-scale systems and 20 GW of centralized power plants.

Last year, Indonesia's cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity surpassed 1 GW for the first time, reaching 1.49 GW.
