en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian listed company SPML Infra has announced it has been awarded a contract worth 11.28 billion rupees (approximately 120 million USD) by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India to build a 1 GWh large-scale Battery Energy Storage System at the Barauni Thermal Power Station site in Bihar. This is the first large-scale BESS project undertaken by the company and also one of the largest single battery storage orders currently in India.

As per the contract, the project encompasses the full scope of work for a 250 MW/1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System, covering design, engineering, supply, civil works, installation, and commissioning. Key equipment includes 5 MWh DC containers configured with Battery Management Systems and Thermal Management Systems, 33 kV switchboards, 220 kV DC and AC cables, a 220 kV switchyard, and related ancillary facilities. The overall construction period is set at 18 months, followed by 15 years of continuous operation and maintenance services after commissioning.

Once completed, the project will enable deep coordination between the large-capacity battery storage facility and existing thermal power infrastructure, supporting peak load dispatch, enhancing grid stability, and promoting the efficient integration of renewable energy. SPML Infra stated that this contract award further consolidates its market position in India's rapidly growing energy storage sector. The company is collaborating with technology partner Energy Vault to advance the development and delivery of next-generation battery storage solutions tailored to the scale and objectives of the Indian market.
