Sungrow to Build 10GWh Energy Storage Plant in Egypt, Operational by 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sungrow has established an energy storage manufacturing facility with a planned annual capacity of 10GWh in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone, slated to begin operations in June 2027. The facility will enhance local manufacturing capabilities for battery energy storage systems and support renewable energy projects in Egypt and the surrounding region.

The plant's initial output will be prioritized to support the Sustainable Energy Valley project in Egypt's Minya Governorate. Co-developed by the Egyptian government and Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec, the project is expected to receive 4GWh of energy storage systems supplied by Sungrow.

This investment builds on Sungrow's existing footprint in Egypt, where the company has already participated in multiple large-scale renewable energy projects. Sungrow recently contributed to the commissioning of the Abydos Phase II solar-plus-storage project in Aswan Governorate, supplying 1.2GW of PV capacity and 720MWh of battery energy storage systems. Once fully operational, the project is expected to become Africa's largest integrated solar-plus-storage facility.

Thompson Meng, Vice President of Sungrow, stated that through localized manufacturing, the company can improve delivery efficiency and provide faster, more flexible support for renewable energy projects in the Middle East and Africa. Localized manufacturing is part of the company's broader strategy to deepen supply chain partnerships and develop local capabilities, extending beyond factory production to collaboration with local enterprises, supply chain development, and workforce training. He noted that Sungrow will share renewable energy expertise and technology, cultivate local talent, and help Egypt unlock its potential as Africa's leading renewable energy hub.

The establishment of this new facility will bolster Egypt's growing pipeline of battery energy storage and renewable energy projects. Egypt is currently expanding its investments in solar power and energy storage infrastructure.
