en.Wedoany.com Reported - A consortium formed by China Energy International Group, Southwest China Electric Power Design Institute, and China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. recently signed the EPC contract for the Phase I Solar-plus-Storage Project in Midelt, Morocco. Located in the Midelt region of the country, the project will construct an approximately 630 MW photovoltaic power station and a 1300 MWh electrochemical energy storage system. The scope of work covers survey and design, equipment supply, construction and installation, commissioning, and related services. Upon completion, it will become the largest single-site solar-plus-storage project in Africa.

As a key project in Morocco's energy transition, upon operation, the project will leverage the role of the large-scale energy storage system in peak shaving, frequency regulation, and stabilizing renewable energy output, effectively enhancing the flexibility and reliability of the local power system, promoting the large-scale development and efficient integration of renewable energy such as solar power, and providing strong support for Morocco to achieve its 2030 renewable energy development targets.

This marks another major achievement for China Energy Engineering Corporation in the Moroccan market, following the El Walidia 2×450 MW gas turbine project and the Kenitra–Marrakech High-Speed Railway Section 9, and signifies a solid step forward in its business in this market from single-project breakthroughs to multi-sector synergy, rolling development, and sustained operations.

Going forward, all parties of the consortium will fully leverage their advantages in planning and consulting, survey and design, engineering and construction, equipment integration, and resource aggregation, continuously optimize technical solutions, advance project construction with high standards and high quality, and strive to build the project into a benchmark large-scale integrated solar-plus-storage demonstration project in Africa and a flagship project of China-Morocco green energy cooperation, contributing CEEC's wisdom and strength to the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and Morocco's energy transition.
