en.Wedoany.com Reported - Primergy Solar announced that its Ash Creek Solar project in Hill County, Texas, has reached commercial operation. The project will add 408 MW (AC) of capacity to the ERCOT grid.

The project has a long-term power purchase agreement with Microsoft. In 2024, Primergy announced it had secured $588 million in project financing and $350 million in tax equity financing for the Ash Creek Solar project, bringing total financing to nearly $1 billion.

The project's financing package includes a construction loan, a tax credit transfer bridge loan, and associated letters of credit. MUFG Bank, Ltd. and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) acted as lead structuring arrangers and lead investors.

Orion Power Generation, a joint venture between Orion Renewable Energy Group and Eolian, originally began developing the project in 2016. Primergy acquired the project in 2021. Solv Energy served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.

Ash Creek Solar will contribute approximately $100 million in tax revenue to Hill County, Texas, over its operational life, thereby increasing the tax base for local school districts.

Primergy Solar CEO Ty Daul stated: “Projects like Ash Creek Solar provide thoughtful energy solutions that meet consumer needs, drive long-term value, and enhance America's energy independence.”

The project provided 350 full-time construction jobs locally. Additionally, six full-time permanent positions will be retained for facility maintenance.

Primergy has developed some of the largest solar projects in North America, including the Gemini Solar + Storage project, which entered operation in July 2024. Located in Nevada, Gemini added 690 MW of solar generation and 380 MW of 4-hour battery energy storage to the grid. The project features over 1.8 million solar panels.

Texas is a solar industry powerhouse, with over 43.5 GW of installed capacity, ranking first among all states for new capacity additions in 2024, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). SEIA reports that the state's installed capacity is enough to power over 5 million homes, and more than 8% of the state's electricity comes from solar. SEIA states that the Texas solar industry employs over 12,000 people.
