en.Wedoany.com Reported - Germany's Rhenus Project Logistics has begun transporting the first batch of 24 train sets from China to Brazil for the renovation of the Metrô BH system railway line in Belo Horizonte. Rhenus was awarded the contract to transport a total of 96 carriages, each measuring 24 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, and 4.4 meters high, and weighing 54 tons.
Rhenus is collaborating with ALS Customs Services for customs transit and final clearance, while COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers is responsible for the maritime transport. The train carriages departed from the Port of Qingdao in China and arrived at the Port of Sepetiba in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after a 36-day sea voyage. Upon arrival in Brazil, Rhenus manages the end-to-end process, including inland transportation, bonded warehousing, and final delivery to the Metrô BH maintenance yard in Minas Gerais. At the end of each delivery, the carriages must be unloaded and precisely placed onto the railway tracks.
Prior to commencing deliveries, Rhenus conducted extensive route surveys and engineering studies for transporting these oversized train carriages through Brazil's infrastructure. A 4,000-kilometer land route study was carried out, evaluating multiple route options and analyzing traffic conditions, storage area capacity, and the structural requirements of the unloading zones. Luis Rodríguez, Director of Rhenus Project Logistics for Latin America, stated: "Latin America is experiencing significant growth in infrastructure investment, and we are committed to providing solutions that support this long-term growth through our global network and extensive regional presence across Latin America."
