Alstom Delivers 9th Train for Kanpur Metro Line 2 in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alstom has delivered the 9th train for the Kanpur Metro Line 2 to the Chandra Shekhar Azad (CSA) Depot. Manufactured at Alstom's Savli plant in Gujarat, the train is part of the "Make in India" train sets. A total of 10 trains are planned for Kanpur Metro Line 2 (CSA–Bara-8 Corridor), and with the arrival of the latest one, 9 have now been delivered.

Alstom is manufacturing and delivering 201 metro cars for the Agra-Kanpur metro project, including 67 three-car train sets and a signalling solution. The trains are produced at the Savli plant, supporting the "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives. The corridor aims to strengthen high-capacity public transport and improve connectivity across key areas of Kanpur.

The train sets feature stainless steel car bodies designed to withstand demanding operating conditions, including temperature variations, vibration loads, and high-intensity operations, offering corrosion resistance and long-term durability. The trains are equipped with Flexx Metro bogies to enhance running stability and passenger comfort, reducing oscillations during tunnel transitions and providing effective suspension performance when negotiating curves and gradients.

For the traction system, the trains integrate Alstom's Mitrac traction technology with regenerative braking capability, which recovers braking energy and feeds it back into the electrical system, thereby reducing energy consumption. The modular design of the traction equipment simplifies maintenance procedures and helps reduce downtime; redundant braking and control systems provide reliability assurance throughout the train's lifecycle.

The train cars are fully air-conditioned and feature automatic sliding doors, ergonomic seating, optimized standing areas, and dedicated spaces for persons with reduced mobility. They are also equipped with passenger information systems providing real-time updates and safety systems, meeting the demands of high-capacity urban transit operations.

Kanpur Metro Line 2 is expected to provide residents with a sustainable alternative to road transport, reducing traffic congestion and dependence on private vehicles in the city centre by improving accessibility to commercial areas, educational institutions, employment opportunities, and other destinations, thereby supporting urban revitalization and regional mobility.
