en.Wedoany.com Reported - Norway's BW LNG announced on social media that it has ordered two additional next-generation LNG carriers from South Korea's HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2029. According to the shipyard's disclosure, the total order value is KRW 748.5 billion (approximately USD 508 million), with a unit price of about USD 254 million per vessel.

As early as November 2025, BW LNG had already placed an order with the same shipyard for two identical LNG carriers, which are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2028.

All four new vessels adopt a next-generation LNG carrier design with a capacity of 177,000 cubic meters. This design is the first in the industry to feature a three-tank configuration, differing from the traditional four-tank, 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier. The new design offers greater cargo capacity and a lower boil-off rate. The new ship type was developed through a collaboration between BW LNG, France's GTT, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

BW LNG stated that this series of vessels can effectively enhance freight cost advantages while offering high operational flexibility to meet the evolving demands of the global LNG market. The new ships will also be equipped with the latest energy-saving technologies, including the XDF 2.2 propulsion system with VCR technology, shaft generators, and a complete reliquefaction system, thereby achieving the lowest fuel consumption and emission levels in the market.

Including the four vessels under construction, BW LNG's fleet size stands at 34, comprising 30 LNG carriers and 4 Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs).
