en.Wedoany.com Reported - EDECS Group, an EPC contractor in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, has secured a strategic contract from DP World to rehabilitate seven operational yards at Terminal 1 of the Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania. The terminal is operated by DP World Dar es Salaam, and site works have already commenced, reflecting EDECS Group's delivery capabilities and its expanding role in the region's maritime and logistics infrastructure development. DP World is a global provider of end-to-end supply chain, logistics, port terminal, and trade solutions.

Under the scope of the contract, EDECS Group is responsible for the design and construction of seven dedicated cargo and materials handling yards, each covering an area of 10,000 square meters, complete with corresponding gates and supporting utilities.

These yards, aimed at modernizing port infrastructure, will support an advanced digital yard management system, enhance cargo storage and handling conditions, and improve operational performance and future-readiness through sustainable engineering solutions. Additionally, EDECS Group is implementing a port-wide fire protection network that extends beyond the original project boundaries, along with the installation of a port-wide high-mast lighting system to enhance safety and operational efficiency at the port facility.

Engineer Hussein El Dessouky, Chairman and Managing Director of EDECS Group, stated that the partnership with DP World has been further extended through the Dar es Salaam Port modernization project. This project holds strategic significance for Tanzania and the wider region, and the team is currently advancing site works across key operational areas of the project, delivering the critical infrastructure required for safer, smarter, and more efficient port operations. As Dar es Salaam consolidates its position as one of the region's most important maritime gateways, EDECS Group is committed to contributing to projects that promote trade connectivity, support economic growth, and align with Tanzania's long-term national development goals.

Martin Jacob, Chief Executive Officer of DP World Dar es Salaam, stated that the modernization of the DP World terminal at Dar es Salaam Port remains central to enhancing trade connectivity and logistics efficiency in East and Central Africa. Building on the existing partnership, EDECS Group has demonstrated satisfactory execution speed in civil works.

This latest contract further consolidates EDECS Group's strong track record in delivering complex maritime, port, and logistics infrastructure projects across the Middle East and Africa region. The Dar es Salaam Port handles over 90% of Tanzania's international maritime trade and serves as the primary maritime gateway for seven landlocked countries in East and Central Africa. It is also regarded as one of the cornerstones of Tanzania's Vision 2050, which aims to establish the country as a logistics and trade hub in Africa.
