American Water Charitable Foundation and Indiana American Water Provide Over $70,000 in Disaster Relief

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF) announced more than $70,000 in financial assistance and on-the-ground support to communities across Indiana affected by severe storms and flooding. AWCF is a charitable nonprofit organization established by American Water.

The funding includes disaster relief grants and strategic community investments to help residents and families recover from recent weather-related emergencies. Barry L. Suits, President of Indiana American Water, stated that when weather events impact communities, employees proactively engage in emergency response, maintaining critical water and wastewater systems and participating in emergency response efforts even while their own families and communities face storm challenges.

The American Water Charitable Foundation has awarded $55,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts following widespread storms and flooding in Indiana. This follows an additional $25,000 disaster relief grant provided by the Foundation in June of this year to support tornado recovery efforts in the state.

In addition to disaster relief grants, the Foundation is providing funding to local organizations through its State Strategic Impact Grant Program. Recipient organizations include: the Legacy Foundation in Merrillville, which received $5,000 to support disaster recovery and community assistance in northwest Indiana; and the Hamilton County Community Foundation in Noblesville, which received $5,000 to support recovery assistance programs for Hamilton County residents affected by recent flooding.

Indiana American Water also donated $2,500 each to the City of Muncie and the City of Richmond to assist with flood response and recovery activities in both communities.

In addition to financial support, company employees participated in efforts to protect critical infrastructure. In northwest Indiana, utility employees worked around the clock in severe weather conditions to maintain water and wastewater operations, with some employees continuing to serve customers while their own communities experienced extended power outages and property damage. In Muncie, water operations personnel helped reinforce and maintain critical treatment facilities during rising floodwaters, ensuring water service for customers throughout the storm.

The company's support also extended beyond its service areas. Indiana American Water deployed a mobile drinking water semi-trailer to Cambridge City, providing additional resources for local emergency response and recovery efforts and supporting community leaders and first responders in helping flood-affected residents.

Suits noted that these recovery efforts demonstrate the resilience of Indiana communities and the dedication of various organizations, volunteers, and first responders. The company works with organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Legacy Foundation, and the Hamilton County Community Foundation to provide relief and support long-term recovery for the communities it serves and neighboring communities in need.
