en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bengaluru-based quantum-safe startup Pramatra Space has recently completed an undisclosed amount angel round of funding, led by Seafund Ventures. Participating investors include Rebalance, Magnivia Ventures and its partner Peaceful Progress Fund, as well as prominent angel investor and Pixxel Space founder Awais Ahmed. Early investors also include Techstars (US), Neel Mehta (founder of Roh Ventures), Raghunath Das (Co-founder & CEO of Almagest Space), and Bhavya Doshi (Director of KRISS Portfolio), among others.
Founded in 2023 by Richa Hukumchand and Vinay Hukumchand and headquartered in Bengaluru, Pramatra Space aims to equip enterprises with quantum-resistant capabilities before the advent of the quantum threat day (Q-Day). The company is building a hybrid satellite and terrestrial system to enable global quantum-safe communication. Its technology employs Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to generate and distribute encryption keys for securing data centers and space infrastructure, serving as an additional security layer to help enterprises counter evolving cyber threats.
The company achieved a key technology milestone at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), validating and testing its proprietary Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) chip based on entanglement-based QKD. Pramatra Space has partnered with a satellite platform manufacturer and booked an in-orbit demonstration mission for its payload in 2027. The funds raised will be used to advance the PIC chip towards flight qualification and accelerate product development.
"Time is of the essence, and nations must prepare for the quantum era," said Richa Hukumchand, Founder and CEO of Pramatra Space. "India has consistently demonstrated exceptional strength in space technology. What excites us most is that talent, institutions, and policy ambition are now converging on quantum technology at precisely the right moment. Pramatra is our contribution to ensuring India not only participates in the quantum era but helps define it. We are proud to be building this technology in India, for the world."
Founder and CEO Richa is a scientist-turned-entrepreneur whose career spans building air defense systems at India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), earth observation at Pixxel Space, and now quantum communication at Pramatra. Richa was recently recognized as an "Emerging Women Founder 2025" at the HDFC Bank Group Innovation Through Technology 2025 event. Co-founder and COO Vinay brings extensive business and thought leadership experience, with a track record of taking R&D-led products to market across emerging technology categories at companies like Deloitte, AstraZeneca, and Davita.
"At Seafund, we back cutting-edge deep-tech founders building sovereign technologies for space and cybersecurity over the next decade," said Narendra Bhandari, General Partner at Seafund. "Pramatra Space sits precisely at this intersection, leveraging advanced photonics and satellite infrastructure. Their successful chip validation at IIT Madras demonstrates technical capability, and we are excited to lead this round and support their journey to orbit."
"The most exciting founders today are not just solving present problems; they are preparing for the future. Pramatra Space is at the confluence of quantum computing, cybersecurity, and space infrastructure—three shifts that will define the global landscape over the next decade. What impressed us was not just the technical prowess and ambition, but the conviction to build sovereign, world-class deep tech from India," added Aishwarya Malhi and Vikas Kumar, Co-founders of Rebalance.
Currently, most of the world's digital infrastructure, such as banking systems, defense networks, satellites, and data centers, relies on current encryption systems to secure data and applications—an assumption that may soon no longer hold true. As quantum computers evolve, existing strong encryption systems and architectures could become obsolete in the future.
This investment aligns strongly with Seafund's strategy of backing deep-tech founders at the forefront of hardware, space, and emerging technologies. By leading this pre-seed funding round, Seafund aims to accelerate Pramatra's progress towards flight qualification and commercialization.
