en.Wedoany.com Reported - Stride Treglown has won a competition to develop a 20-year strategic masterplan for the world-renowned BRIT School in Croydon.
Launched earlier this year, the competition attracted 67 practices, with Stride Treglown beating eight shortlisted bidders including Haworth Tompkins, Allies and Morrison, Broadway Malyan, and Marks Barfield to secure the project.
The prestigious performing arts school has nurtured many of the UK's most successful artists over the past decades, including Adele, Amy Winehouse, Olivia Dean, FKA Twigs, RAYE, Leona Lewis, and Jessie J.
Louise Cooper, the school's Chief Operating Officer, said the practice "demonstrated a genuine understanding of the school's ambitions and a commitment to collaboration that aligns strongly with our values."
Stride Treglown will lead a consultant team including Hemingway Design, Untitled Practice, Gleeds, and Civic Engineers to develop a long-term framework for the campus, enabling the school to modernise its facilities and support future growth.
The school stated that the final masterplan will be co-designed with students and staff, aiming to improve internal campus connections, upgrade outdoor spaces, create new outdoor performance venues, and foster a "stronger sense of place" across the campus.

Danny Harris, Board Director at Stride Treglown, said the key to the project was "listening first" to understand what students and staff need from their environment.
"The BRIT School is an extraordinary institution where creativity runs through everything it does. What excites us most is the opportunity to look beyond individual buildings and create a long-term vision for how the campus can evolve over time," Harris said.
He added: "Our first impression of the site was of a community brimming with creativity—students constantly performing, rehearsing, and expressing themselves across the campus."
"In many ways, the campus already feels like a stage, but the environment doesn't fully support or celebrate that energy."
"So a key challenge is how to transform the ageing campus into an inspiring performance venue for all art forms, creating opportunities for play and expression in everyday 'third spaces' like corridors and outdoor areas."
BRIT alumni have collectively sold over 280 million albums and generated more than 70 billion music streams. Their international accolades include 28 BRIT Awards, 25 Grammy Awards, 23 MOBO Awards, three BAFTA Awards, and two Academy Awards.
