Nigeria's Kogi State Launches Tender for Construction of 28 Secondary Schools, Receives 61 Bids in Total

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 17, the Kogi Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (Kogi AGILE) completed the public bid opening for the construction of 28 combined junior and senior secondary schools, receiving a total of 61 valid bids. The project covers 21 local government areas in Kogi State and falls under the AGILE project's "building safe and accessible learning spaces" sub-project. After procurement is completed, it will proceed to the bid evaluation and contract award stage.

Kogi AGILE stated that the construction plans for the 28 schools have received additional approval from the World Bank. This procurement is for the construction of new combined junior and senior secondary schools, and all participating bidding companies had previously been given the opportunity to conduct site inspections. At the bid opening, the names of bidders, their quotations, and the information required to be disclosed under the tender documents were publicly read out and recorded.

This round of procurement adopted an open competitive procedure, with the bid submission deadline set at 12:00 noon on the day of the bid opening. The project procurement and evaluation team inspected the sealed condition of the bid box before the bid opening, and then counted and confirmed the 61 bid documents. The bid opening results do not directly determine the winning companies; all bid documents will proceed to subsequent evaluations of qualifications, technical proposals, and prices.

The Kogi AGILE project coordination office plans to complete this round of bid evaluation in about 4 weeks. After the evaluation is completed, the results will be announced to participating companies through the official channels specified in the tender documents. The specific contract packages, winning companies, contract amounts, and commencement dates for the 28 schools will be determined in the subsequent contract award stage.

Kogi AGILE is supported by the World Bank through an International Development Association credit. One of the project's objectives is to expand the supply of secondary education infrastructure. Its Component 1.1 explicitly supports the construction of new climate-resilient classrooms and the expansion of existing primary and junior secondary facilities into a complete junior and senior secondary education system; Component 1.2 is used to rehabilitate existing school buildings and supplement teaching facilities.

This year, Kogi State is also advancing the renovation of 728 public secondary schools, of which the first batch of 150 schools has entered the implementation stage, and the remaining 578 are planned to be covered in phases. This batch of renovation projects is divided into three funding tiers based on school infrastructure needs, with per-school funding of USD 15,000, USD 30,000, and USD 60,000 respectively, and includes construction components such as water supply, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
