en.Wedoany.com Reported - SMS group has successfully commissioned a fully automatic MP 3150 eccentric closed-die forging press, with China's TZCO Chain Manufacturing officially issuing the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC). The press is now in operation at TZCO's new forging workshop in the TZCO Industrial Park, Yuci District, Jinzhong, Shanxi, producing excavator track chain links.

SMS group successfully commissions fully automatic closed-die forging press

TZCO Chain Manufacturing stated that this highly automated and technologically advanced press enables the company to expand its excavator business through track chain link production in the new forging workshop. With high precision in the forging process and minimal flash, TZCO achieves material savings and lower production costs.

The scope of supply includes the MP 3150 closed-die forging press (nominal force 3,150 tons, i.e., 31.5 MN), complete line engineering, and a customized digitalization package. The press is designed for high output and precision, achieving up to 30 strokes per minute. The fully automatic production line targets a cycle time of up to 4 seconds per part for excavator track chain link production.

To support high-quality manufacturing, SMS provided dedicated forging tools, implemented comprehensive process improvements, and integrated forging simulation, analysis, and optimization solutions. The resulting forging process uses high-precision punching with minimal flash, reducing downstream machining operations and saving material and energy.

The automation equipment includes an automatic walking beam transfer system, with each axis controlled by dedicated servo drives. Optimized acceleration and deceleration ramps, combined with integrated sensor technology, ensure smooth motion, reduce mechanical wear, and help maintain short cycle times. Automatic die lubrication and spray units, quick die change carriages, and a dual-station moving bolster are also part of the press automation.

SMS integrated basic digitalization package components into the existing process control system, enabling continuous production monitoring and equipment data evaluation, aimed at ensuring consistent part quality and operational performance. To assist TZCO in improving productivity and managing energy costs, all relevant production and energy key performance indicators (KPIs) are transmitted to a dedicated large dashboard, providing the customer with real-time process data.

Bernhard Kaminski, Sales Manager at SMS group, stated that through years of global project experience, SMS has established a proven track record. These reference cases gave TZCO the confidence to choose this press, not only for its theoretical performance but also for the real, measurable uptime, cost savings, and part quality it delivers in daily operations.
