Sandvik's SEK 260 Million Rock Drill Production Line Expansion Enters Ramp-Up Phase

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Sandvik completed the main implementation of its SEK 260 million expansion plan at its rock drill manufacturing facility in Tampere, Finland. New factory buildings, machine tools, and automation systems have all been deployed, and the plant has now entered the production ramp-up phase. The investment plan was launched in 2023, aiming to increase rock drill production capacity in stages, with the first phase targeting a 25% increase and subsequent phases offering room for an additional approximately 20% capacity growth.

The project first completed a 1,600-square-meter factory expansion in 2024, followed by the installation of new machining tools in 2025. Entering 2026, construction focus shifted to the installation of advanced automation systems and production ramp-up. Sandvik confirmed that the relevant factory buildings, machine tools, and automation infrastructure are now fully in place, and actual production output will continue to increase from 2026 to 2027.

The core products covered by this round of expansion are Sandvik rock drill components and related high-precision manufacturing processes. The Tampere facility also handles the manufacturing of technologies and equipment for both underground and surface drilling rigs. The newly added production system focuses on introducing automation and digital manufacturing technologies, equipped with dedicated manufacturing solutions developed specifically for rock drill production requirements. Sandvik stated that production output continued to grow during the expansion period, and customer demand has also accelerated the implementation of certain investment plans.

This milestone marks the transition from "expansion construction" to "equipment in place + automation system installation completed + production ramp-up." During the Future of Mining 2026 event held in Tampere in early September, Sandvik also opened its new rock drill factory for customer visits. The factory has now been put into operation as part of its Tampere mining equipment manufacturing system.
