UK's BAE Systems Acquires US Space Equipment Manufacturing Plant for $30 Million

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, UK-based BAE Systems announced the completion of its acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Weld County, Colorado, USA, for a purchase price of $30 million. The plant has a building area of approximately 12,100 square meters and sits on a site of approximately 52,600 square meters. It will be used to expand manufacturing capacity for space hardware and sensor systems. The company plans to begin facility renovation and production equipment procurement within 2026, start production in early 2028, and add more than 200 jobs over the next 12 to 24 months.

The acquired property was originally an industrial facility of Danfoss Power Solutions in Weld County, located at 4120 Specialty Place. Local real estate transaction records show that BAE Systems completed the acquisition in early October with a payment of $30 million. The building's existing production facilities will undergo adaptive renovation, and the manufacturing equipment subsequently procured will serve the production of space hardware and sensor systems.

The new plant is BAE Systems' first manufacturing base in Weld County. According to current workforce plans, the plant will be able to accommodate approximately 600 employees when fully operational, covering manufacturing and related engineering positions. The company will carry out facility renovation, equipment procurement, and production preparation during the remainder of 2026, with production activities planned to begin in early 2028.

BAE Systems currently operates production facilities in Boulder, Broomfield, and Westminster, Colorado. The newly added Weld County plant will be integrated into the company's Space & Mission Systems business and will undertake manufacturing work for space hardware and sensor systems. Alexis Wang, Vice President of Operations at the company, stated that the Colorado state government and Weld County local authorities participated in coordinating site selection and investment implementation for the project.
