en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 3, the heavy plate plant of Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech, part of Germany's Salzgitter Group, in Mülheim officially commissioned a new hot leveler. This is one of the largest single investments at the plant in over 20 years. The equipment has completed installation and commissioning and has entered the production phase, primarily used for leveling high-strength heavy steel plates.

The new equipment was jointly developed by Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech and Austria's Buma Engineering & Anlagenbau to meet the production requirements of the Mülheim plant, with the complete hot leveler weighing approximately 1,100 tons in total. The investment volume for the project is in the tens of millions of euros range, covering the dismantling of existing equipment, procurement and installation of new equipment, and associated foundation work. The company did not disclose a more precise contract amount.

During project implementation, the plant laid dedicated tracks in the cooling bed area to facilitate foundation construction for the new equipment, dismantling of old equipment, and installation of large components. Salzgitter stated that by scheduling dismantling, installation, and commissioning work in advance, the Mülheim plant experienced only a brief production stoppage during the entire equipment replacement process. The new hot leveler subsequently commenced production according to the project schedule.

The new equipment will expand the Mülheim site's processing capabilities for particularly thick, high-strength steel plates, which can be used in large steel structures such as offshore wind foundations and support structures. The project had previously been under construction, and Salzgitter's 2025 materials confirmed that construction of the new hot leveling equipment in Mülheim was progressing as planned; this September milestone now marks the official transition from the construction phase to operation.
