Green Tech AEM Electrolyser.
Wedoany.com Report-Feb 25, Ansaldo Green Tech has received €317 million ($332 million) from the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy to advance its AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) Electrolysers project. The single stack electrolyser can produce over 500 kilograms of hydrogen daily. The company highlights its efficiency, flexibility, reduced water use, and lower dependence on critical raw materials.
Designed for remote and unmanned operations, the system includes a control mechanism that adjusts hydrogen output and plant functions based on variable power input from the grid. This adaptability supports consistent performance under fluctuating energy conditions.
The initiative falls under the EU-funded IANUS (Inspiring and ANchoring trUst in Science) project, which seeks to promote the development and industrial-scale production of modular electrolysers. This includes 1MW containerized units and open-design solutions tailored for multi-MW industrial applications.
Ansaldo Green Tech is targeting commercial prospects in sectors such as industry, mobility, and power generation, where hydrogen could contribute to reducing carbon emissions. The company views these areas as key opportunities for applying its technology to support sustainable energy goals.
In November 2024, Ansaldo Green Tech completed the sale of its first electrolyser, marking a milestone in its efforts to bring this technology to market. The funding from the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy will support further refinement and expansion of the AEM Electrolyser technology, aligning with broader European objectives for clean energy innovation.
The electrolyser’s design emphasizes practical deployment, with features suited for standalone operations and scalability. This positions the company to meet growing demand for hydrogen solutions across various industries, leveraging its progress within the IANUS framework.
