Wedoany.com Report-Feb 26, Norwegian renewable energy company Alotta is partnering with fish farming firm Emilsen Fisk to establish a floating solar power plant at Emilsen Fisk’s site in Båfjordstranda, Norway. This project is set to become the world’s northernmost floating solar power plant. Supported by Enova, a Norwegian state enterprise, the initiative seeks to decrease the aquaculture sector’s dependence on diesel generators.

Approximately 40% of fish farms in Norway currently rely on diesel, contributing to higher emissions and operational costs. Alotta’s floating solar technology aims to reduce the use of fossil fuels in these facilities. The system being installed, known as the Alotta Solar Hybrid 120, is tailored for maritime settings and will blend renewable energy into Emilsen Fisk’s operations.

Enova is funding 45% of the project through its Climate and Energy Fund, supporting the effort to promote sustainable practices. Egil Hjelmeland, Sales Director at Alotta, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating: “We have greatly enjoyed working with Emilsen Fisk, a company that truly recognizes the value of investing in innovative and sustainable solutions. This project has been inspiring, and we are excited to deliver a solution that meets their needs and ambitions.”

Emilsen Fisk prioritizes sustainability as a core objective. Roy Emilsen, the company’s CEO, highlighted the importance of this shift, noting that the Alotta Solar Hybrid 120 enables the use of clean energy at their Båfjordstranda location. The system is expected to begin functioning by March 2025.

Kari-Elin Hildre, CEO of Alotta, emphasized the broader implications of the project, saying: “This contract with Emilsen Fisk demonstrates how the aquaculture industry can lead the way in transitioning to more sustainable energy solutions. Our collaboration with Emilsen, combined with support from Enova, is a great example of how we can facilitate green transformation in a sector with a significant impact on both the environment and local communities.”

The installation of the floating solar system is planned for March or April 2025. Designed to endure offshore conditions, the Alotta Solar Hybrid 120 integrates solar power with robust engineering suited for aquaculture needs. This effort reflects a practical step toward reducing environmental impact while maintaining operational efficiency in Norway’s fish farming industry.
