South Korea to Host AI Law Research Seminar on the 16th

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Korean Society for Information and Communications Law and the Korean Society for Data, AI Law and Policy will jointly host a publication commemorative seminar for the monograph "AI Law Research" on the 16th at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. The seminar will discuss the legal challenges posed by the "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Basic Act," which takes effect in January next year, as well as new technologies such as Agentic AI and Physical AI.

The seminar is organized as the AI Basic Act enters the operational phase of its institutional framework. Centered on a book involving 31 experts, the event will delve into topics such as high-impact AI regulation, transparency regulation, legal issues of Agentic AI, and legal challenges of Physical AI through presentations and discussions.

At the opening ceremony, Lee Sung-yeop, President of the Korean Society for Information and Communications Law, will deliver the opening address, and Son Seung-woo, President of the Korean Society for Data, AI Law and Policy, will give the welcoming remarks. Congratulatory addresses will be delivered by government, academic, and legal figures, including Ryu Je-myung, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT; Song Sang-hoon, Head of the Support Team for the National AI Strategy Committee; Lee Hee-jeong (Korea University School of Law), President of the Korean Public Law Association; Choi Jang-hyuk, Special Professor at Seoul National University (former Vice Chair of the Personal Information Protection Commission, PIPC); Attorney Jeong Young-jin (Kim & Chang); Attorney Son Do-il (Yulchon LLC); Attorney Ko Hwan-kyung (Kwangjang); and Attorney Park Ji-yeon (Bae, Kim & Lee LLC).

During the presentation session, Attorney Kang Tae-wook from Bae, Kim & Lee LLC will address high-impact AI regulation, and Park So-young, Legislative Researcher at the National Assembly Research Service (NARS), will cover transparency regulation. Kim Byung-pil, Professor at the Graduate School of Technology Management, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Kim Hyun-chul, Principal Researcher at the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), will present on the legal focal points of Agentic AI and Physical AI, respectively.

The comprehensive discussion will be moderated by President Lee Sung-yeop, with participation from experts in academia, research institutions, and law firms. This seminar is expected to provide a broad platform for discussing the direction of legal improvements following the implementation of the AI Basic Act and the regulatory framework for new technologies.

Editor-in-Chief Lee Sung-yeop stated that with the enforcement of the AI Basic Act, society has officially begun to answer the question of "how to regulate artificial intelligence," but the rapid evolution of technologies such as Agentic AI and Physical AI continuously tests the imagination of the legal system. He expressed hope that the publication of "AI Law Research" and this seminar will bring together the wisdom of academia, the legal community, industry, and government to make substantive contributions to the implementation and development of AI legislation.
