Wedoany.com Report-Feb 26, Statkraft has launched the 47MW Cernégula wind farm in Castilla y León, Spain, marking its second wind energy project in the province of Burgos. The company already operates the Páramo de Poza wind farm in the same region. The Cernégula facility, equipped with eight turbines, can produce enough electricity to meet the yearly needs of about 36,000 households. This €54m project has also supported 140 jobs during its development.

To address environmental concerns, Statkraft installed stereoscopic bird-monitoring systems at Cernégula. These systems feature an automatic shutdown function to prevent turbine collisions with birds. Alongside this, Statkraft collaborated with the Natural Heritage Foundation of Castilla y León to establish a wetland area and bird observatory near Valdivielso, within the Santa Olalla municipality, close to the lagoon’s perimeter.

Statkraft is now preparing a new renewable energy initiative in Burgos, the Abrazadilla project, which will combine wind and solar power. This will be the company’s first hybrid project in Spain. The wind component includes three turbines with a total capacity of 21.6MW, while the solar plant will provide 16.5MW and cover roughly 40 hectares. The development spans the municipalities of Ausines, Ibeas de Juarros, Arceo de Burgos, and Revilla del Campo.

The Abrazadilla project has secured grid access, connection permits, and environmental approval. Statkraft is currently engaging with local communities to share details about this upcoming venture. The Cernégula wind farm’s completion strengthens the company’s presence in the region, while the hybrid project reflects its ongoing commitment to renewable energy expansion in Spain.

The energy output from Cernégula aligns with the average annual consumption of 36,000 homes, highlighting its role in supporting sustainable power needs. Statkraft’s efforts in Burgos demonstrate a focus on balancing energy production with environmental care and community involvement. The Abrazadilla project, once operational, will further diversify the region’s renewable energy sources.
