en.Wedoany.com Reported - Vodacom Tanzania has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC) to accelerate the digital transformation of cooperatives through its digital agriculture platform, M-Kulima. The partnership aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and financial inclusion in Tanzania's cooperative sector by digitizing key processes and expanding access to digital and financial services for farmers and cooperative members.

The M-Kulima platform is primarily used to help cooperatives and farmers digitize activities such as farmer registration, agricultural product collection, and payments, while also providing financial services including loans, savings, insurance, and investment products. Vodacom stated that the platform has registered over 3.2 million farmers and facilitated payments exceeding 88 billion Tanzanian shillings (equivalent to $34 million) to more than 325,000 farmers. As part of the agreement, Vodacom Tanzania also donated 35 laptops to TCDC to support its digital operations.
Nguvu Kamando, Director of Enterprise Business at Vodacom, stated that this initiative reflects the operator's commitment to leveraging technology to improve livelihoods and support Tanzania's socio-economic development. He noted that the partnership will provide cooperatives with digital tools and financial solutions to enhance operational efficiency and transparency, while helping farmers participate more effectively in the agricultural value chain. Under the agreement, cooperatives will gain access to digital member registration, payment services, savings and loan products, and other digital tools. Both parties also plan to offer training and awareness programs to strengthen the digital skills of cooperative leaders and members.
Dr. Benson Ndiege, Registrar of Cooperatives and CEO of TCDC, stated that the partnership will help modernize cooperative operations and improve service delivery. He added that the adoption of more digital solutions will strengthen accountability and create greater value for members, especially farmers. This collaboration is part of broader efforts to promote digital and financial inclusion in Tanzania's cooperative sector and increase technology adoption rates.
