en.Wedoany.com Reported - AMEA Power has secured Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts for two independent battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in Egypt, with a total capacity of 1,500 MWh.

The EPC contracts for the 500 MWh Horus BESS project in Zafarana and the 1,000 MWh Nefertiti BESS project in Benban have been signed between China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China) and AMEA Power. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. In February 2025, AMEA Power had already signed Capacity Purchase Agreements (CPAs) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for these two projects.

In July 2025, AMEA Power commissioned a 300 MWh BESS expansion project for its existing 500 MW Abydos solar photovoltaic power plant in Aswan, marking the first utility-scale BESS facility to become operational in Egypt. Egypt has set a target to achieve 14,320 MWh of battery energy storage capacity by 2028. In addition to the Abydos BESS project, AMEA Power is collaborating with Japan's Kyuden International to develop a 1,000 MW solar photovoltaic power plant, which will be combined with a 600 MWh BESS (Abydos II) in Aswan, with a total estimated cost of $700 million. The minister also witnessed the signing of an agreement to establish a BESS factory in Egypt with an annual capacity of 3,000 MWh, to be jointly developed by AMEA Power, Gotion, and Energy China International.
