Matekane stated that this project is a key initiative by the Lesotho government to enhance public service levels, stimulate economic growth, and improve the lives of its citizens. The core objective is to address the decades-long geographical isolation of the area, ensuring that remote communities gain access to basic public services and equal development opportunities. The implementation of the project will effectively resolve the long-standing issue of impassable roads for local residents during the rainy season, allowing essential resources such as healthcare, education, and markets along the route to truly benefit the people.

Located in the mountainous southeastern region of Lesotho and connecting to the A4 national trunk road, the Design and Build Project for the 45km Matlali-Lebakeng Road Asphalt Upgrading and Bridge Construction is a crucial infrastructure project for improving the local transportation network. The main scope of the project includes the design and construction of upgrading 45 kilometers of existing gravel road to asphalt, as well as the construction of bridges over key river sections. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance road safety and connectivity between the Matlali and Lebakeng areas, promote trade and resource development along the route, and bring new opportunities for regional development.
