en.Wedoany.com Reported - PyroGenesis has delivered a gasification system to Innofibre, the Quebec cellulose innovation center, capable of converting contaminated biomass into syngas. This delivery is part of a collaborative research initiative aimed at expanding the range of biomass feedstocks available for energy and chemical production.

The gasification system is installed at Innofibre's newly opened $14 million pilot and pre-commercialization facility at Cégep de Trois-Rivières. It is reportedly the only facility of its kind in North America capable of operating under simulated industrial production conditions.

Innofibre focuses on innovation in pulp and paper, biorefining, forest and agricultural biomass, with applications including bio-based products, biomaterials, biochar, waste valorization, and decarbonization.

Contaminated biomass refers to wood and organic materials mixed with paints, solvents, melamine, and other chemicals during production or landfilling, which have historically been difficult to process. PyroGenesis' high-temperature plasma gasification technology can treat contaminants within the syngas stream, enabling previously unusable feedstocks to enter the production chain. The resulting syngas can be used for power generation or as a feedstock for producing chemicals, fertilizers, methanol, ammonia, and synthetic fuels, including renewable diesel.

P. Peter Pascali, President and CEO of PyroGenesis, stated that Innofibre's facility is crucial for advancing the commercialization of innovations in Quebec's bioeconomy and forestry sectors. Quebec Minister of Labour Jean Boulet, along with representatives from funding partners Canada Economic Development and the Fonds du Grand Mouvement Desjardins, attended the official opening ceremony of the facility.
