en.Wedoany.com Reported - Edge data center platform nLighten has completed a major renovation of its Bristol data center to support AI-ready infrastructure.

This upgrade is part of nLighten's £100 million ($132.43 million) investment plan to expand and modernize its UK edge data center network. As demand grows for higher-density, AI-ready infrastructure, computing needs in major UK hubs continue to outpace supply.
Dame Dawn Childs, CEO of nLighten, stated that this investment reflects a clear shift in the direction of AI infrastructure demand. Bristol is emerging as a key hub for high-density and AI-ready capabilities, and this expansion enables the company to support clients requiring scalable, secure infrastructure outside of London. She added that nLighten is strengthening the UK's regional digital backbone while driving the next phase of AI-powered growth.
The upgraded site is expected to improve access to low-latency, high-performance computing for data-intensive and mission-critical applications, covering AI, cloud services, and next-generation digital platforms. Within its UK operations, nLighten is committed to supporting enterprises and public sector organizations through resilient, sovereign, and more sustainable infrastructure to foster innovation and regional growth, supporting the UK's goal of becoming a technology leader.
The facility's core infrastructure has been specifically enhanced to support high-density AI workloads, including rack configurations. New data halls, upgraded cooling and power systems, improved energy efficiency targeting a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.2-1.3, and enhanced carrier-neutral connectivity have been added. nLighten stated that these upgrades have nearly doubled the site's AI-ready power capacity, enabling support for higher-density AI workloads closer to where data is generated and consumed.
This upgrade comes as AI adoption continues to accelerate across multiple sectors, but regional infrastructure is constraining growth. Locally, the renovation is expected to support organizations requiring low-latency expansion and bring immediate employment benefits. nLighten noted that Bristol has a mature technology ecosystem, making it an ideal location to address AI-related pressures. The site will also serve as a Sovereign Infrastructure Hub, supporting organizations with strict requirements for data residency, security, and long-term resilience.
Dame Childs stated that this investment reflects the growing demand for AI and secure data infrastructure outside of London. Regional capabilities like those in Bristol will play a key role in supporting innovation while giving organizations greater control over where and how their data is processed.
