China publishes data for January and February in a combined release to smooth out the effects of the Lunar New Year, which falls in either month.
Last year, China's coal output rose to a record high of 4.76 billion tons, albeit at a slowing growth rate of 1.3% as coal consumption enters a plateau period in line with market projections.
Domestic consumption rose 1.7% year-on-year in 2024, according to a previous statistics bureau release.
Analysts have expected output to tick up again slightly this year, although two key industry bodies in late February called for curbs on output to bring an oversupplied market back into balance.
