en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Government of Ontario is renovating a key section of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Construction crews have begun repaving a 16.8-kilometer stretch of Highway 17 from south of Echo Bay to Highway 548. The project also includes the renovation of the eastbound Bar River Bridge and the replacement of the westbound Bar River Bridge.

Under a separate contract, crews will replace the Stobie Creek Bridge, renovate the Walker Creek culvert on Highway 17, and replace the Richardson Creek Bridge on Highway 548.

Highway 17 is a strategic link in the Trans-Canada Highway corridor, transporting goods valued at over $18.6 billion CAD annually.

Ontario is expanding the Trans-Canada Highway from Thunder Bay to Nipigon to four lanes. In October 2024, the province completed the first phase of four-lane expansion from Kenora to the Manitoba border. Currently, the second phase of four-lane expansion on Highway 17 between Highway 673 and Rush Bay Road is in the preliminary design stage.
