en.Wedoany.com Reported - DigiCert Japan held a press briefing on ensuring content authenticity in the AI era, introducing the mechanism and application solutions of the international standard C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity).
With the evolution of generative AI tools, anyone can easily create realistic images and videos, while cases of fake news and forged images spreading have also emerged one after another. Kaname Ninomiya (二宮要), Country Manager of DigiCert Japan (デジサート・ジャパン), pointed out that the fundamental issue is that currently, there is no way to confirm whether the content seen is trustworthy, whether it was generated as originally intended, or whether it has a correct editing history.
DigiCert, which has been preventing impersonation and ensuring authenticity through PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) for many years, held a press briefing on the new standard C2PA on June 24, 2026. The briefing explained the C2PA mechanism for ensuring content authenticity and introduced solutions required for content generation, distribution companies, and platforms to adopt C2PA.

C2PA is an international standard for content authenticity founded in 2021 by industry leaders such as Microsoft and Adobe. Its three pillars are tamper resistance, traceability through electronic signatures, and verifiability by anyone. The mechanism attaches an electronic signature each time content is generated, edited, or distributed, and records provenance information in a manifest, thereby ensuring authenticity throughout the entire lifecycle.

Content compliant with C2PA will be attached with a "CR (Content Credentials) mark," which anyone can click to confirm the creator (who made it), creation date and time (when it was made), and editing history (what edits were made). Mr. Ninomiya stated that with the mark, it is trustworthy; without it, it cannot be confirmed, allowing consumers to make such a distinction.
