en.Wedoany.com Reported - Qualcomm is in discussions with ByteDance regarding custom chip design services. The U.S. chipmaker is seeking to diversify its business structure and reduce its revenue reliance on the smartphone market, which remains its largest source of income.

According to Reuters, the discussions are ongoing, and some of the custom chips designed by Qualcomm for ByteDance will be based on technology held by AlphaWave Semi. ByteDance has previously disclosed that it is developing its own AI chips for inference tasks and custom CPUs. If an agreement is reached, ByteDance would become an early customer of Qualcomm's chip design services. Last year, Qualcomm announced its return to the global chip market and the CPU field, aiming to diversify its product lines and reduce dependence on a single business segment.

In October 2024, Qualcomm launched its next-generation AI inference optimization solutions for data centers—Qualcomm AI200 and Qualcomm AI250. Both solutions are tailored for fast generative AI inference scenarios, delivering rapid inference capabilities with high performance per dollar and per watt.

In the AI infrastructure sector, ByteDance is becoming a major spender. Bloomberg News recently reported that ByteDance is in preliminary discussions with multiple banks regarding an offshore loan of approximately $20 billion, which would be the company's largest offshore loan to date.
