en.Wedoany.com Reported - WeWood, the timber specialist of Bouygues Bâtiment France, has introduced a wood-framed partition wall solution that halves the carbon footprint of partition walls without compromising technical performance. This solution has been applied for the first time in the NEOZ project in Castelnau-le-Lez (Hérault), developed by Linkcity and built by Bouygues Bâtiment Centre Sud-Ouest.

Currently, most building partition walls use metal frames, and no technical specifications allow for the substitution of wooden studs and panels. The wood-framed partition wall developed by WeWood meets regulatory requirements for separations between dwellings, between dwellings and corridors, and between two independent spaces. The solution consists of a wooden frame, mineral or wood fiber insulation, and plasterboard from the SINIAT brand of the ETEX Group, ensuring acoustic, fire, and mechanical performance with the same thickness as metal-framed partition walls. It imposes no restrictions on designers and has no impact on users, offering identical appearance, comfort, and functionality. It can be applied to all types of projects: residential buildings, apartments, public reception areas, functional buildings, for both new construction and renovation, and can be integrated during the design phase or modified during construction.

Christelle Atié, project manager for bio-based and geothermal materials at WeWood/Bouygues Bâtiment France, stated that construction teams still use familiar working methods, while the partition wall's carbon footprint is halved, without increasing the workload for plasterboard workers or compromising the building's appearance or usable area. Data shows that the carbon footprint of wood-framed partition walls is approximately 12 kg CO₂ eq/m², compared to about 25 kg CO₂ eq/m² for metal-framed ones. This solution originated from Bouygues Construction's internal innovation competition "InnoCup," held every two years, winning the Environment and Sustainable Development category in 2023, proposed by the WeWood team. To transform the idea into a workable building solution, Bouygues Bâtiment France collaborated with SINIAT, a major French plasterboard company, to complete performance certification and technical validation of the partition wall.

The NEOZ project, developed by Linkcity and Swiss Life Assets Managers France in Castelnau-le-Lez, is the first construction site to practically apply the wood-framed partition wall. This innovation benefited from the involvement of subcontracting partner SIAP (responsible for the partition wall section), finding a testing ground in this residential project. As one of the earliest pioneers of the build-to-rent concept in France, NEOZ has adopted this construction innovation first. Bouygues Bâtiment France stated that this solution provides a concrete path for decarbonizing secondary structures, helping the group achieve its goal of reducing the carbon footprint of its construction activities by 30% by 2030.
