en.Wedoany.com Reported - SK Telecom officially announced its global standards-based autonomous network advancement strategy at the TM Forum "DTW Ignite 2026" held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

SK Telecom disclosed this news on the 25th. An autonomous network is a next-generation operational method where AI autonomously operates and manages the network, aiming to minimize human intervention. The TM Forum is a global telecommunications industry association with over 240 telecom operators, IT companies, and software vendors. SK Telecom noted that previously, different companies or devices used proprietary approaches, leading to limited scalability. Domestic operational systems also faced challenges in interconnection and integration due to the separation of systems across various domains. For AI to function properly, systems and data must use the "same language," meaning integration based on global standards. Therefore, TM Forum standards are a necessary prerequisite for achieving autonomous networks.

SK Telecom has identified four key execution areas: redefining operational business processes, constructing data ontologies, transforming the next-generation Operations Support System (OSS), and standardizing AI agents. The company plans to collaborate with global enterprises such as AWS throughout the process to unify network equipment from different vendors into a single AI solution for control, thereby enhancing network flexibility and scalability. SK Telecom will also strengthen its in-house R&D capabilities based on AX (AI Transformation). Employees are currently developing and operating over 1,000 autonomous network platforms and AI agents independently. The AI control system "Spider" can centrally monitor core network equipment, automatically detect anomalies, and recommend corrective actions, integrating previously device-separated monitoring systems to improve efficiency and stability.

SK Telecom aims to accelerate the transformation of next-generation OSS and the realization of autonomous networks, targeting TM Forum-defined Autonomous Network Level 4. Level 4 refers to the stage where the system autonomously understands and makes independent decisions, minimizing human intervention. Ahn Hong-beom, Head of SK Telecom's Network AT/DT Division, stated that building autonomous networks based on global standards will lead a paradigm shift in the telecommunications industry. The company hopes to collaborate with global telecom operators through TM Forum standards to build an autonomous network ecosystem, thereby providing stable and intelligent communication services.
