en.Wedoany.com Reported - Blue Planet and Telefónica Germany (Telefónica Deutschland / Telefónica Germany) have jointly completed a proof of concept, exploring the use of agentic AI to drive 5G network slicing services, reducing design and deployment tasks that previously took weeks to just minutes.
This proof of concept integrates Blue Planet's OSS-native agentic AI building platform, Blue Planet AI Studio, with the multi-domain service orchestration (MDSO) environment deployed for Telefónica Germany, an instance provided by Blue Planet since last year. By leveraging AI agents to handle complex standard specifications and reusing catalog components managed by MDSO, the solution delivers faster, higher-quality designs while ensuring consistency and reducing error rates through guided, repeatable workflows.
Eva Ulicevic, Director of Architecture, Strategy, and Technology Enablement at Telefónica Germany, stated that this validation demonstrates how an intent-based, AI-driven approach can facilitate the evolution toward more autonomous operations, thereby enabling more value-added services. Javier García, Global CTIO Core IT Lead at Telefónica, noted that this proof of concept supports operators in advancing toward higher network autonomy, emphasizing that the evolution of operational systems toward AI-native platforms is key to enhancing autonomy.
Network slicing is a core architectural feature of 5G SA deployments, allowing operators to establish isolated virtual networks to handle resource-intensive use cases such as video streaming. ABI Research predicts that the network slicing market will reach $19.5 billion by 2028, but technical and use-case issues have slowed its development. The application of AI agents in the telecommunications industry is driving the realization of this opportunity. In an interview with SDxCentral commemorating the tenth anniversary of its acquisition by Ciena, Joe Cumello, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Blue Planet, stated that advancements by cloud service providers and the development of Kubernetes in data formatting and application deployment have become the foundation for efficiency gains in autonomous networks and agentic AI.
