en.Wedoany.com Reported - Silicon Labs (Korea Branch Manager Baek Un-dal) has successfully built and validated a 200-node Matter-over-Thread network, demonstrating the scalability, reliability, and performance of Matter technology in large-scale smart buildings, commercial IoT, and next-generation smart home applications.

The validation network was unveiled at the first Unify event of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), marking a shift in the Matter ecosystem from the interoperability validation phase to the scalability validation phase in real-world deployment environments.

Daniel Cooley, Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Labs, stated that Matter is rapidly evolving into a platform capable of supporting larger-scale network deployments, far beyond the scope of smart home technology. This work demonstrates that Thread-based Matter can theoretically scale to thousands of devices, while also showcasing how innovations in Matter, Thread, and concurrent multiprotocol technology can help customers build, manage, and proactively leverage these networks.

This validation network is one of the largest publicly disclosed Thread-based Matter performance test networks to date, designed to evaluate network performance beyond traditional residential application scenarios. Unlike limited laboratory simulations, this network operates in Silicon Labs' connected lab in Boston and a real office environment, with devices distributed throughout the facility and exposed to various wireless environments, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread traffic. The validation process tested multicast messaging, unicast communication, configuration workflows, and long-term network stability under conditions similar to actual deployments.

As a leading industry contributor to Matter, Silicon Labs helps developers accelerate Matter adoption from concept design to mass production by providing wireless SoCs, software, OpenThread-based development tools, Thread border routers, certification resources, and ecosystem support. The company supports the latest Matter specifications, including Matter 1.6 features, which expand device interoperability, broaden supported device categories, and unlock new smart home and smart building experiences.

The 200-node Thread-based Matter validation network is built on the OTBR (OpenThread Border Router) implementation. Silicon Labs provides OTBR solutions and development resources to simplify the deployment of large-scale Matter networks. This achievement also reaffirms Silicon Labs' technological leadership in concurrent multiprotocol technology. Pioneered by Silicon Labs, this technology allows devices to support multiple wireless protocols simultaneously via a single wireless chip, enabling device manufacturers to maintain compatibility with existing deployment environments while simplifying the transition to Matter.
