McGregor is located southwest of Waco, spanning McLennan and Coryell counties. During a city council meeting this week, the company revealed plans to develop approximately 500 acres of land near SpaceX's rocket testing and development facility, investing about $400 million to build up to eight buildings. The site, named "Project Merlin," will feature a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water usage. Galaxy has committed to covering the costs of related infrastructure upgrades.

This will be Galaxy's second data center campus. Its first campus, Helios, is located in Dickens County, about 300 miles northwest of McGregor. The Helios campus broke ground in July 2021, spans 160 acres, and launched cryptocurrency mining operations in May 2022. At the end of 2022, Galaxy acquired the data center from Argo Blockchain for approximately $65 million, with a two-year hosting agreement signed as part of the deal.

Last year, CoreWeave committed to leasing the entire 800 megawatts of capacity then approved at the Helios campus. Under the 15-year agreement, average annual revenue is expected to exceed $1 billion. Currently, Phase 1 of the Helios project is under construction, with the first data halls already delivered. As CoreWeave prepares to take over the Helios campus, Galaxy Digital is relocating its mining operations elsewhere and has signed a 48-megawatt contract at Soluna's Kati data center project in Texas.

Galaxy stated that the 1,500-acre campus could ultimately support up to 3.5 gigawatts of power capacity.
