en.Wedoany.com Reported - The New South Wales Government is investing $7.2 million in safety and maintenance upgrades on the Hume Highway at the Berremangra section, aiming to improve travel safety and reliability on this busy freight corridor.

This is the latest investment by the state government on this corridor, following a $10 million upgrade of the southbound lanes completed in November last year. The project is being carried out in two stages, including widening sections of the highway, installing new safety barriers to enhance driver protection, and replacing cracked and damaged concrete pavement to improve ride quality and extend the road's lifespan.

Brendon James, Executive Director of Transport for NSW, stated that every serious crash has a significant impact on individuals, families, and communities, and continued investment in practical safety improvements helps reduce the risk and severity of accidents. The installation of safety barriers and pavement repairs will bring long-term benefits to road users, improving protection and providing a smoother driving experience.

Stage one construction will take place on weekdays from July 1 to August 28, with crews focusing on a 7-kilometer section of the northbound lanes between Bogolara Road and Cobblers Road, installing new safety barriers and repairing sections of concrete pavement. Traffic management will be in place during the works, including lane closures and reduced speed limits. Motorists should allow up to 10 minutes of additional travel time and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
