en.Wedoany.com Reported - Duo Group has signed a new agreement with Tungsten West Plc to deliver a key engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work package for the restart of one of the UK's largest tungsten mines—the Hemerdon tungsten-tin mine in Devon. The contract covers the construction of new crushing, screening, and ore sorting facilities and is a major component of the broader restart plan.

Both tungsten and tin are classified as critical minerals, essential for defense, electronics, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. Tungsten's hardness and heat resistance make it indispensable in aerospace, military, and industrial applications, while tin is a fundamental material for soldering, semiconductors, and energy infrastructure. With global supply chains for these two minerals highly concentrated outside the UK, the Hemerdon project is seen as a key step in strengthening domestic supply and reducing import dependence.

The new facility will employ modern jaw and cone crushing technologies to replace the site's existing mixed roll crushers, while incorporating advanced ore sorting systems and a series of downstream processing improvements aimed at enhancing feed grade efficiency. As the official UK distributor of Metso equipment, Duo Group is well-positioned to deliver, install, and support the fixed equipment at the core of the new facility, as well as provide ongoing after-sales service, wear parts, spare parts, and long-term customer support.

Stephen Armour, Director of the Turnkey Division at Duo Group, stated that securing the Hemerdon contract is a significant milestone for the division, reflecting trust in its turnkey capabilities and team expertise. The group has served as the EPC partner for the facility since 2025, and this announcement builds on that existing role.

Martin McWilliams, Managing Director of Duo Group, said that Duo has a long and proven history of delivering complex turnkey projects in the UK, with the team working closely to develop a solution that places proven crushing technology at the heart of the process. The facility is a critical part of the Hemerdon restart plan and is vital to the future of the UK's critical minerals industry.
