en.Wedoany.com Reported - First Mining Gold Corp. (First Mining) announced that its Springpole Gold Project in Ontario, Canada, has received federal environmental assessment (EA) approval. Julie Aviva Dabrusin, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature, issued a decision statement on behalf of the Government of Canada, confirming that the project can proceed. The Springpole Project is one of the largest undeveloped gold resources in Canada, located approximately 110 kilometers northeast of Red Lake, Ontario.

Dan Wilton, CEO of First Mining, stated that this is a significant day for the company, local Indigenous communities and municipalities, shareholders, and northwestern Ontario. The federal government's approval of the project confirms that it will be the region's largest economic driver in a generation. The project is expected to generate billions of Canadian dollars in government revenue, create hundreds of local jobs, provide contracting opportunities for regional and Indigenous businesses, and support infrastructure and services. The company expressed gratitude to the Indigenous communities, municipalities, stakeholders, and internal teams and external consultants involved in the environmental assessment process.

The decision is based on a comprehensive federal environmental assessment process conducted since 2018. During the assessment, input was gathered from Indigenous communities, the public, federal government departments, and agencies including Environment and Climate Change Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Transport Canada.

First Mining is continuing to advance engineering optimization in the post-environmental assessment phase of the project in preparation for construction. The approval conditions in the federal decision statement are based on the environmental mitigation commitments and management actions proposed by the company during the assessment process, covering areas such as engineering design, aquatic and terrestrial protection, monitoring, adaptive management, and consultation. The company will ensure compliance with all conditions required to proceed with construction and operations.

First Mining is a gold developer advancing two gold projects in Canada: the Springpole Gold Project (pre-feasibility study stage) in northwestern Ontario and the Duparquet Gold Project (preliminary economic assessment stage) in Quebec. Founded in 2015 by Keith Neumeyer, founder of First Majestic Silver Corp., the company also holds a 20% interest in the Pickle Crow Gold Project and a significant equity stake in Seva Mining Corp.
