en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazil's Sabesp (Basic Sanitation Company of São Paulo State) is advancing a water supply infrastructure project in the city of Mauá, with a total investment of 166.8 million reais, aimed at resolving long-standing water supply bottlenecks and directly benefiting 240,000 residents in the ABC region of São Paulo. The project includes the construction of the new Mauá Water Storage Center and three pumping stations (EEAs) — Anchieta, Zaíra, and Caixa de Passagem — all supplied by the Alto Tietê System.

New reservoir and pumping stations will solve historical water supply issues, benefiting 60% of Mauá's population

These works are part of a large-scale investment plan implemented by Sabesp following the company's privatization driven by the São Paulo government. The plan aims to achieve universal access to basic sanitation across the state. In 2025 alone, the company invested 15.2 billion reais in infrastructure projects, a 120% increase over the previous year. By 2029, the company plans to invest 70 billion reais to ensure all residents receive water supply, sewage collection, and treatment services.

The project specifically includes the delivery of the Anchieta reservoir with a capacity of 10 million liters, and two units of the Caixa de Passagem/Zaíra reservoir, each with a capacity of 1 million liters. In total, the project adds a new storage capacity of 12 million liters. This capacity is crucial for meeting the demands of the overloaded region of Mauá, while also ensuring greater water security during planned maintenance or power supply failures. The project also involves the installation and replacement of 28 kilometers of pipelines, along with 32 new pressure-reducing valves (VRPs) and 25 remote-controlled sectors (SMRs). These devices are used to control pipeline pressure, reduce the risk of leaks and bursts, and enable digital control of the water supply system through the integration of sensors and automation technology.

With the new configuration, the region will rely on gravity-fed water from the new reservoirs, reducing dependence on electricity supply, thereby enhancing the resilience and service stability of the water supply system.

The advancement of this project is part of the São Paulo government's "Na Rota da Água" (On the Water Route) initiative. This initiative aims to monitor sanitation progress and increase the visibility of water security projects. Under this plan, Sabesp is expected to deliver and conduct technical inspections on over 1,100 ongoing projects in cities covered by new contracts. Previously completed projects include sanitation works in Itapecerica da Serra, Embu das Artes, and Embu-Guaçu, two new wastewater treatment plants in Caieiras and Franco da Rocha, and a sewage collection expansion system covering Francisco Morato in the Greater São Paulo region.
